Snow gives us permission to pause and takes us into an enchanted world
Welcome to my garden. I’m Peggy Fiedler, and I’m a compassion advocate, cancer thriver and storyteller. Today I’d like to talk about winter snow.
Originating in the clouds, and comprised of individual ice crystals, snow occurs when temperatures are freezing from cloud to earth. It symbolizes purity and uniqueness, something that comes from the heavens. It is a bouquet of offering.
It is said no two snowflakes are alike. They dazzle us with their intricate structures and their fluffy white flakes that fall from the sky.
Snow, in its beauty, can be fleeting. Its intensity tells its story. It can arrive as flurries or as a dusting. These glistening crystals can melt as soon as they hit the ground. It also can arrive in showers or in a blizzard. When it arrives in abundance, snow weaves a blanket that envelopes us and protects us. Snow brings calm.
Freshly fallen snow gives us permission to pause. It wraps us in stillness and holds us in quiet. When we look out the window, everything looks perfect. We see a magical world. It allows us to savor the silence and settle in to it.
Snow brings us an enchanted world. It makes the imagination dance.
In many children’s stories, snow plays a prominent role. It brings out magical characters and transports us to other worlds.
Snow invites us to frolic. Make snow angels, build a snowman, throw snowballs. Build a snow fort. Find the perfect hill for sledding. It gives us an excuse for a day off.
Snowflakes remind us we are unique, have many expressions—and can be intense. Snow also reminds us that we can take a pause, be still and take in the awe.
