Welcome to my garden. I’m Peggy Fiedler, and I’m a compassion advocate, cancer thriver and storyteller. Today I’d like to talk about fall cozy.
On these chilly fall mornings, I take my blanket and my mug of hot coffee out to the garden, where now what awaits is silence. I miss the sound of the fountain, which is no longer running. I am not willing to give up my morning time outside, nor the peace that comes with connecting with the remains of the garden. I let my gaze fall on the hardiest of all the flowering plants, those that have not wilted with the freeze or the chill of the night. This kind of silence is incredibly peaceful.
Wrapped in the warmth of my blanket and surrounded by the chill in the air, I feel the preciousness of this moment. My presence to the day is deepened by the contrast of the cold and delighted by the sunlight pouring into the courtyard.
From my cocoon, I can allow my thoughts to drift. The blanket gives me the first bit of comfort, warming my mind with memories. I am grateful that I can still come here.
Instead of dwelling on memories that upset me, or my regrets, I connect with gratitude for my life. I fall back into warm memories.
Happy memories are powerful. It’s important to connect with these on a daily basis. Give yourself permission to bathe in the warmth of happy memories.
Even though we are going into a dark season, we can still embrace it, because these memories always live on within us. Once a memory is encoded in our being, it lives there forever.
I see these cozy mornings as a way of teaching myself to hold on to those happy memories so I can relive them. Reflect on what your happy memories are. I invite you to welcome in … this practice of collecting and dwelling on those memories. If you do not feel you have many, how can you work to create more of that in your life? Bundle up and take in the fall cozy. Invite what makes you happy into your life.
THE FALL COZY AFFIRMATION
I draw from the hardiest plants, the ones that have not wilted or frozen. I connect with the warmth and the light. I dwell on my happy memories. And I invite what brings happiness.
