Flavorful, bright and festive parsley offers new take on the ritual of bringing in the green
Welcome to my garden. I’m Peggy Fiedler, and I’m a compassion advocate, cancer thriver and storyteller. Today I’d like to talk about parsley.
Ahead of the first snow, I brought in a large terra cotta planter of parsley from my garden and set it inside the French doors of my living room. I knew I wanted to keep it alive. I didn’t want to cut it or dry it. I wanted to keep this reminder of the last vestige of my summer garden. It was too abundant, too lush for me to harvest it. I wanted to see how long I could make it last.
Already it has withstood the frost and stayed alive until the first of December, which shows its hardy nature.
Usually, parsley is a garnish on the plate. However, it is one of the most nutrient-dense herbs we have, with powerful healing benefits and the cherished property of boosting your immune system. It’s not just an adornment. It has a lot of there, there.
Parsley is flavorful and bright. Its vibrant taste makes it the world’s most popular herb. It has universal appeal.
In spiritual and ritual uses of the herb, it is seen as a symbol of rebirth.
Parsley is native to the Mediterranean. I made sure I placed it where it could lovingly receive the morning sun.
Parsley has been thought to remove bitter or difficult emotions. It is believed that when you partake of parsley, it binds itself to the bitterness in you and carries it away from your body, mind and soul.
In flower language, a bouquet of parsley stands for festivity. This is my new take on the ritual of bringing in the green, my way of ushering in the season of celebration.
THE PARSLEY AFFIRMATION
Like the parsley, I am cherished. I am more than an adornment. I am filled with a vibrance and brightness as I welcome in the season of celebration.
