Let us enter a new era with a greater sense of belonging

Welcome to my garden. I’m Peggy Fiedler, and I’m a compassion advocate, cancer thriver and storyteller. Today I’d like to talk about all that glistens.

As we approach New Year’s Eve, what’s been catching my eye is how many of the images around me are glistening—icicles dangling from the eaves, a night sky clear and bright with stars. When midnight comes, we will drop a glittering ball.

I started thinking about why we put so much emphasis on things that sparkle as we usher in a new year. Glitter itself is a promise of something good and adventurous. Crystals are a symbol of hope and happiness. Perhaps we surround ourselves with these symbols because we want to draw the radiance into our lives and share that illumination and spirit with others.

It only takes a small mirror to reflect great light. The famous glittering ball dropped in Times Square is made up of 2,688 Waterford crystals, each inscribed with a yearly message of hope…for abundance, for courage, for unity. The theme for 2021 is the Gift of Happiness.

As we head into the new year and the Christian celebration of Epiphany, let’s do a little star-gazing.

Epiphany is the twelfth day of Christmas, and its symbol is the Star of Bethlehem that guided the wise men, the Magi, who were bearing gifts.

On Winter Solstice 2020, many people in the Northern Hemisphere saw the Grand Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn, which some referred to as the Christmas Star. It had last been seen 800 years ago, at the birth of the Renaissance, and it is believed the two planets also converged at the time of Christ’s birth. Some theorize this was what the Star of Bethlehem was, a guiding light through a dark night.

On Dec. 21, 2020, the two planets met in the constellation of Aquarius. This astronomical event ushers us deeper into the Age of Aquarius. It is seen as a harbinger of great change, signaling a move away from materialism and toward a greater sense of the collective. This era will be marked by resilience and liberation, as well as healthier and more unifying ideologies and practices.

When these conjunctions occur, old systems and beliefs crumble. If it’s not healthy, if it’s rigid, it will fall away. Let us all enter the new era with a spirit of unity and a deeper sense of belonging and caring for ourselves and each other.

THE ALL THAT GLISTENS AFFIRMATION

We stand at the convergence of our own personal renaissance. We draw all radiance into our lives and, like a prism, our collected light breaks through to a new era.
